Troubleshooting

Symptom, likely cause and what to do, for the problems people meet most often.

Find the symptom, check the cause, follow the fix. If nothing here helps, see support.

Numbers#

Cost shows 0#

CheckWhat to do
Is there an "Hourly rates are not set" banner?A new monetary project's default hourly rate is 0. Set a Default hourly rate in Settings → Rates and revenue, or rates per person or role on the Team tab.
Do the project's issues have logged time?Cost comes only from worklogs on issues in the scope. Check the scope in Settings and that the issues really have time logged.
Is the project time-based?Then there is no money, only hours. Switch to monetary in Settings if you need cost (see changing the type).
Is a rate set to 0 on purpose?0 is a real rate (unpaid work) and does not trigger the banner. Clear the field to fall back to the next level.

Totals look incomplete or "first 500 of about N issues"#

Cause: a project reads at most 500 issues. Fix: split the project by Jira space or by period. See Limits and behaviour.

I changed a rate and old numbers moved#

Cause: the change had no Effective from date, so it applied to all hours. Fix: to keep history, set the rate again with an Effective from date (a rate can have several periods); set the earlier rate on its own start date. See Rates that change over time.

Overview and a report show different numbers#

A figure did not update after I logged time in Jira#

Calculated figures are kept for about 15 minutes. Wait, or change something in the project (any rate, role or setting) to make it recompute straight away.

Revenue shows 0#

Portfolio totals are blank or missing#

Money adds up only across monetary projects with the same currency. With mixed currencies, or only time-based members, the money totals are left out and the page says so. Hours still add up.

Access#

I cannot open or edit a project#

Access is per project: owner, editor, viewer or none. Ask the project's owner to change its sharing (Settings → Sharing), or a Jira site administrator if the owner has left. A viewer can read but not change anything.

I cannot find a person to add#

The search lists existing users of your Jira site only, and needs at least two letters. The app cannot invite people or send email: invite them to the Jira site first (Jira settings → User management → Invite user), then search again. App accounts are not offered.

I cannot create or edit accounts, attributes or library roles#

These are site-wide and limited to Jira site administrators. Everyone can see them. Ask an administrator.

A project I expected is not in my portfolio or list#

Setup#

Where is the app?#

Open Cost Tracker from the Apps menu in the Jira sidebar. It is one global page; it does not appear inside individual Jira projects.

The scope is rejected when I save#

The JQL is validated against your site. Fix the query (a misspelt field, an unknown project key) and save again. A project you cannot see in Jira is not found either.

A cost account stopped applying#

If an account's JQL stops being valid (a field was deleted, for example), the account is skipped instead of breaking reports. Edit the account's JQL to fix it.

Still stuck?#

Write to info@vudia.site with the project name, what you expected, what you saw, and (if you can) a screenshot.

Cost Tracker is built on Atlassian Forge and runs entirely on Atlassian's infrastructure. Questions or corrections: info@vudia.site.
