Revenue and profit

Track what a project earns, by billable hours or as a fixed price, and see profit and margin next to cost.

Revenue is available on monetary projects only; a time-based project has no currency to bill in. Turn it on per project under Settings → Rates and revenue → Revenue tracking.

Two ways to earn revenue#

Hourly billing#

Revenue accrues from logged hours at each person's billing rate. The billing rate is chosen with the same order as the cost rate (own, cost account, role, project default), with its own rates and its own default.

Fixed price#

The project's budget is the contract amount and counts as revenue, whatever hours are logged. Billing rates are hidden. Set the amount as the Budget.

Fixed revenue entries#

On the Revenue tab you can also add revenue by hand, such as a milestone payment or a licence sold. These fixed revenue entries add to the project's revenue and profit on any monetary project, even with hourly tracking off. A time-based project shows a one-line note instead.

Profit and margin#

Profit is revenue minus actual cost (labor plus expenses). Margin is profit as a share of revenue. Both are shown next to the cost figures, not in a separate reconciliation step.

Example: if Website redesign were a fixed-price project

Budget (and so revenue) 6,000. Actual cost is 1,370 (1,120 labor plus 250 expenses). Profit is 4,630 and margin is 77%.

Revenue shows 0? Revenue tracking may be off, no billing rate may apply yet (a banner says so), or a fixed-price project has no budget. See Troubleshooting.

Cost Tracker is built on Atlassian Forge and runs entirely on Atlassian's infrastructure. Questions or corrections: info@vudia.site.
